Day 2

Stand up to bullying! We had another fantastic day on the picket and at the Gregson.

Our day started with moderately good weather (at least to North-Western standards), early on the picket lines with a turnout of roughly 80+ picketers according to Sunil!

To the tune of Bob Dylan and Gill Scott-Heron, we distributed leaflets, consumed Flapjacks, petted picket dogs and chanted “Education not exploitation!”

We had the incredible pleasure of receiving the moral and financial support of the North Lancs and Westmorland branch of the NUJ – thank you to our friends at NUJ for once again showing up for us!

We also received a very empowering speech from Anderson Jeremiah speaking truth to power on bullying and its ties to colonialism. Cultural, racial, gender-based bullying are all part of a similar system of subjugation that we must work together to destroy.

Steve Cody filmed showing participating picketers his routine

Finally, some of us were convinced to move beyond the picket disco to warm up and instead experiment with picket workouts! Thank you to Steve Cody for showing us the move. Steve is planking every day for a year to raise money for Cancer Care

In the afternoon, we reconvened at the Gregson for a crucial teachout on bullying, where Linda Woodhead facilitated much needed discussions on the culture of bullying at Lancaster University and what to do about it.

We also witnessed a fantastic session on “how to protest musically in a foreign language” with Allyson Fiddler and Sascha Stollhans.
