We are ready to strike again!
Our branch takes part in the first three days of strike announced by UCU, from Wednesday 1st December to Friday 3rd December 2021 – you can find the full program of strike activity here.
On this blog, you will find info and updates on the strike activities, reflections on the action and the campaign, as well as useful material.
In terms of strike actions, like other branches, we will be going for a combination of physical and online activities.
We will have covid-secure socially distanced physical pickets outside all four entrances, including the Health Innovation Campus (HIC) from 8am onwards and then our main coming together sociable space will be a zoom lunchtime strike meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, 1-2pm, to share experiences, pictures of piping hot home-made soup and delicious bakes and answer questions, similar to our general meetings. This will allow members to share the strike experience with each other even if they can’t make the pickets because they do not live in Lancaster, for example.
On Friday 3rd December, at 1pm, we hope to celebrate with a socially distanced solidarity rally with other trade unions, councillors and students on the Town Hall steps/Dalton Square.
As you can see our plan is to make sure the strike is as covid-safe as other UCU strikes have been in Liverpool, London, Sheffield, Dundee and elsewhere, sending a very clear message that the safe management of covid remains as much a priority for members as USS and Four Fights.
Hope to see many of you, in person and online!
