Wednesday 1st February 2023 Remember this date. Remember what we did.
On Wednesday the 1st February 2023 HALF A MILLION workers across the UK went on strike to fight for not just better pay and conditions, but a better and fairer higher education system, and better and fairer public services as a whole. Nurses, teachers, railway workers – all stood side by side. We were part of that. And we are proud to have been part of this UK-wide uprising of workers.
That day is a reminder, if you need it, not to give up on the power of trade unionism.
We are big, mighty and powerful – and we have found our voice again. Join us.
Trade unionism is always about both broader society and individual wellbeing. As individuals we gain strength – we gain a voice – by being part of a larger movement.
As we move ahead into several weeks of strike action, please reflect on the joy felt last Wednesday. Join us. Take part in pickets, rallies, teach-ins and other activities. It is not our anger alone that will defeat greedy senior management – it is our JOY. The joy of trade union solidarity.
We celebrated our support and solidarity…
From Alexandra Park
To the main entrance
To the A6
And to Dalton Square
We brought food for the cold, and for our hearts…
We demonstrated love for who each of us are…
We remembered our colleagues who came by bus but are denied a subsidised bus pass…
AND – we extend our thanks to Lancaster University students for their support
